Sometimes Dreams Come True

I was getting ready in the bathroom mirror when Theodore walked in and pondered,

Ya know, SOMETIMES dreams come true.”

I couldn’t stop smiling at his statement in fact I am still grinning as I write this post. Theodore was referring to us pickling okra.

Yes, I just wrote PICKLING OKRA.

Let me go backwards a bit. In December, my precious friend, Stephan, gave us a huge, homemade jar of pickled okra. Theodore and the other children had the whole jar eaten the first night.

So when spring came along and I was beginning to plant my garden, Theodore asked if he could have his own garden.

Blake graciously took the initiative and got Theodore his very own container for his very own garden.

Then the children and I learned from our Spring read aloud, The Mary Frances Garden Book, how to find excellent compost right here in our woods. After we shoveled fresh dirt into Theodore’s new garden container we were ready for Theodore to choose his plants.

He chose squash, summer flowers, bell pepper, and YOU GUESSED IT, OKRA!!

He has 2 okra plants so he has been saving the okra one piece at a time as it ripens. As of today, he had enough to pickle one jar!

SEE, Sometimes dreams do come true!

You have to wait 48 hours to eat it. I think Theodore has asked 10x, “Is it time yet?” ☺️
I Spy, okra! Can you?
